Benbulben forest walk …

Today I walked the Benbulben forest walk. Benbulben is beneath the cloud cover to the left of the below photo.

But before l did so l needed to get a few snacks for the walk. I stocked up on chocolate bars, biscuits and water.

Emer dropped me off at the car park before heading back home for work. A selfie at the start if the walk.

Off we go along the track.

A little cottage along the way.

Benbulben behind the cottage

A photo of the corner of Benbulben shrouded in cloud.

Sheep grazing

Forest on along the walk

Getting closure to the front of Benbulben.

Time for another selfie

Apparently l’m here

Still shrouded in cloud

Another reminder of Sligo’s famous poet W B Yeats.

Again …

Trees fallen at the edge of the forest. The trees have shallow roots.

I asked Emer about this and apparently it’s common for trees on the edge of the forest to fall. The plantation company factors this in to their plans.

Clouds are starting to lift to expose the front of Benbulben.

Another section of the track.

Apparently l’m here …

Gradually Benbulben begins to be exposed

Looking out over the scenic view of the landscape and Atlantic.

A short panoramic video.

Some flowers along the walk

Another photo overlooking the landscape towards the Atlantic

Almost back at the start

The remains of an ancient circular stone fort.

Information on the circular fort

Looking back up at the corner of Benbulben

Now back at the start waiting for my ride back to Carney.

One last photo looking towards Carney and the bay.

Google Earth 3D image if Benbulben and surrounding area.

After having a quick bite to eat Zoe is being a real pain and demanding attention. Bloody dog gets on the table if you ignore her.

I thought l would take her for a walk. But, once she saw the harness Zoe started to back peddle. So no walk for her

  1. AMAZING. Lovely day for a walk… Look at you trudging around a bewdyful forest walk carefree geez (back home-ish, a large-ish brown snake was floating around that Tat office – I didn’t have the pleasure…). I doubt you’ve come across many creepy crawlies – and it can stay that way, you’ve got your hands full with Zoe

    1. Hey Matt
There are no snakes in Ireland. Yes, Zoe is demanding and wants a lot of attention. Perhaps l shouldn’t be sneaking her some of my Vegemite toast at breakfast.
