Out and about …

You always feeling half human after a long flight with a shower and some sleep. This is the entrance to where l’m staying for until tomorrow.

Up a few flights of stairs to my room.

Then finally room 8

Then inside to my room

The cream pipes on the wall is a heater

The bathroom is a little small but does the trick.

The shower

The view from my room.

No curtains only wooden shutters to block out the light.

The kitchen is downstairs and has a big window where you can watch people walking by.

Yesterday I went for a wonder to explore the immediate area. The kitchen …

Housing a block down.

I discovered a Ned Kelly sports club not far away.

They have trams in Dublin

A little longer than Melbourne trams

Some historic monument

Then onto the GPO museum and the scene of the bloody uprising for the Republic of Ireland.

I went inside for a wander around.

Depicting to battle

The declaration

The Irish were very progressive and militant across a range of issues.

It all came to b a head in early 1900

Today l got up about 10am still not feeling the best. However, l still went out for a wonder. I had a McDonald’s breakfast.

Then found my way down to the precinct along the canal/river.

It’s an area where there’s a mix of old architecture with modern architecture.

Custom House

Directly across the canal is the modern.

On my way down to the immigration museum I came across the below depiction of starving people forced marched to be put in a ship (commonly referred to as a “coffin ship”) to be sent overseas.

The immigration museum which was an amazing experience.

Modern facade with an old world interior of a warehouse

It’s well worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Dublin.

History of immigration sculpture

Single women has free passage to the land down under

Our convict past was heavily influenced by the Irish.

I was even a convict for a short time.

Waiting for a short lecture on the history of the game to start.

After collecting all the necessary stamps in my Irish immigration passport it was time to head off.

I made my way down to see a sailing ship that took timber to the Untied States.

Then l started to make my way back to where l’m staying. I came across the portal they have in Dublin that connects in real time to other portals around the world.

Backside if the portal

Then around to the front,

Then back along Connolly Street making my way to the Castles Tea Rooms for a coffee and toasty.

The coffee was by great

And the toasty came with chips.

Then l discovered l’m a property owner in Dublin.

I’m now back in my room watching a little TV.

  1. Haha, i also remember having to cart my luggage up and down the stairs. I hadnt even considered that they wouldnt have a lift! It was exhausting.
Is the Maccas menu different to ours?
What is the portal for? Do you video chat with people in other parts of the world?
The old buildings and architecture are incredible. I love an old city with lots of history.
Its looks like you’ve done well for yourself in Dublin, nice hotel Barry!

    1. The building is reportedly 250 years old where l stayed in Dublin Hayley. Not much of a chance they’ll have a lift (although it was a damn long way to the top floor). Macca’s menus is practically the same as back home. I felt the bacon and egg McMuffin was a little smaller. They bacon is different too. Very thinly sliced
