To be sure, to be sure …

A quick breakfast during the last few hours before arriving in Dublin. More fine dining by candle light.

The service has been wonderful. Sleep! Not so good. I don’t think l’ve slept for close to 36 hours. Just as well l’ve had some previous experience truck driving! Still a bit over two hours to go.

I had a pleasant surprise mid flight between Doha to Dublin. One of my old VFF colleagues has this happy knack of sending me a text message to check in when l’m either on a flight out of the country or on a flight home. It’s been a while since we connected.

Side note, l just discovered you can have a tinkle in the business class toilet which has a window that looks out directly on to the engine! Made my tinkle so much more enjoyable!

The round about way …

We traveled a less direct route which took us west across Saudi Arabia. Then travelled parallel for a while over land along the Red Sea before crossing into Egypt to skirt around the conflict zone.

I spoke to a steward to ask if this was the normal route. He said no. They typically take a more direct route from Doha. But, the route we flew was the better option given the current circumstances in the Middle East.

Apparently, Manchester is down there below the clouds … somewhere!

I wonder how smooth it will be moving through the clouds. Happy to report there was no turbulence!

Finally, Ireland in sight …

Crossing the coast

Check out the cloud structure in the background! Crazy clouds but pretty landscape below.

A few more snaps of the landscape. Coming into land in Dublin.

They even have large scale solar in the landscape.

The taxi ride from the airport couldn’t have been at a worse time of the day. The traffic was terrible with banked up traffic. This made for an expensive ride.

I’m now sitting at my accommodation waiting for the room to be cleaned. I’m so looking forward to a nice long sleep!

  1. The outlook from the plan is beautiful!
How amazing that there is a large scale solar farm there…in a place where the sun wouldnt shine all that much? I am a little surprised to see it there.
Biz class looks fabulous! I have never travelled in business class but it certainly looks like its worth the extra cost. The food looked great too! The last meal i had in a plane came in a tin foil box. The food didnt even resemble what it was supposed to be and it was so dry and it tasted awful.
Sleep well, Barry. I look forward to seeing more pics of the beautiful landscape.
