Today started off pleasantly! I had breakfast with Sarah who l met during a month long retreat at Kopan monastery in Nepal.

Sasha gives the most wonderful hugs! It was good to spend a few hours with her catching up on her journey.
Every six months l send over to Sarah children story books from our First Peoples for her little one. Sarah is real artsy and a bit of a hippie girl.
Sarah made me a dream catcher (no sure how l’ll get it home though).

Sarah’s son drew a picture of me.

It has a little more hair than l have! He also wrote my name on the back. Not bad for a four year old.

After breakfast we went for a walk in the botanical garden.

A photo of seeds of some type I guess.

Another photo from the botanical garden.

Sarah said there is the town market today. It’s located in the market place near the large church. So after Sarah dropped me off l went to explore the market.

Another photo

And another

One more

Then l was feeling a little hungry so l decided to have a traditional German sausage in bread.

Germans love eating outside.

I decided to explore a little further from the market area. I came across a busker playing not sure what.
Then l found McDonald’s in an old building.

I kept walking and got a bit lost. But l managed to find the church spire in the skyline to reorientate myself.

In a way it worked out well that l got lost as l discovered another busker.
The busker was a young lady from Australia. I gave her £5 and had a quick chat, during our brief chat l found out her parents are from Geelong. She described Geelong as a ‘small town” and l thought more like an extension of Melbourne.
When you walk around the old section of Freiburg you’ll see these small gutters that run water.
They pull them along on a piece of string. Sarah did also says there is an old traditional saying associated with them. That is if you fall/step into one it means you must marry a girl from Freiburg and stay.

I thought what’s the go here and asked Sarah during breakfast. Apparently, they are there for children to put their small wooden boats in.
A photo of a small child making his way to or from a gutter with his little boat.

A boat being pulled along the gutter by a piece of string.

Sarah did also say there is an old wives tale associated with the gutter. Apparently, if you fall and accidentally step into the gutter it means you must marry a girl from Freiburg and then live in Freiburg.
A photo to meat being sold at the market.

And flowers too

More flowers

I decided while l was at the market l would find the ice cream shop and buy another ice cream. I’m happy to report no brain freeze was encountered this time.
My lower back has been killing me today. So I decide to head back to the room and lay down for the afternoon. I think lack of sleep might be catching up with me too! Sleeping pills are not really known to provide a good night’s sleep.
