Visiting Mainz today …

Greg and l decided to visit Mainz which is on the other side of the Rhine River at Wiesbaden. A. Short bus ride into the central train station in Wiesbaden.

A photo of the train system at Wiesbaden.

It was a short train ride to reach Mainz. We probably spent more time sitting in the train waiting for it to leave Wiesbaden than it did to travel to Mainz.

Cobble stone street and typical German buildings and architecture.

The below sign gave me a chuckle.

Another reminder of Germany’s past.

More street buskers in action

Narrow street

Another photo of something that took my fancy.

Another narrow street and get German buildings

An ancient church near the square.

More buildings facing the main square

Greg thought we might visit the Gutenberg museum. It is one of the oldest museums of printing. The museum is named after the inventor printing from movable metal type in Western Europe. But, unfortunately it was not open and undergoing repairs.

We stopped to look at this odd pillar in the market square. It’s wooded and has nails hammered into it. The story goes it was erected during the First World War and was used for fund raising. People would pay to hammer a nail into the wooden pillar.

We had a Vietnamese lunch before catching the train back to Wiesbaden.

Then a short bus ride and walk back to Greg’s place to check on Oskar. I nearly got run over crossing the road. But, that’s story for another day!
